Ideas Are the Main Character¶

The book is largely chapter-by-chapter introductions. The part that resonated most was the opening interpretation of hacker culture.

The hacker mindset: hackers create new things, solve existing problems, and believe in the values of freedom and sharing.

The hacker attitude is:

1. The world is full of interesting problems waiting to be solved.

2. Avoid solving the same problem twice — share your solutions.

3. Repetitive and redundant work should be automated away by code.

4. Contribute your intelligence, keep practicing, stay diligent, and commit to learning from each other.

A sense of mission and passion are easily spent — but fun endures.

On dealing with trolls: filter out the personal attacks, keep only the remaining substance, and respond to that. Address the argument, not the person. #people
